What is all-laser LASIK?

All-laser LASIK, also known as bladeless LASIK, is the state-of-the-art LASIK surgery technique performed at nJoy Vision. Instead of using a mechanical blade to create the flap in the cornea, all-laser LASIK is performed with a computer-guided femtosecond laser. Since a laser forms a flap with the precision that a knife can’t match, the corneal flap is made to a precise size, shape, and depth based on each patient’s individual vision characteristics. It has cleaner edges and heals faster.

How long does the LASIK eye surgery procedure take?

The procedure typically takes 5-10 minutes per eye, with the actual laser treatment time lasting less than one minute per eye. Patients are usually in the surgery suite for no more than 15 minutes and at our facility for an average of 1.5 to 2 hours. Patients need to have someone drive them home following their procedure.

How do I know if I am a candidate for LASIK eye surgery?

The decision to have laser vision correction treatment depends on the results of a thorough preoperative evaluation. Every patient is unique and so are your eyes—our eye surgeons use the most advanced technology to carefully examine them. Most patients with mild to moderate nearsightedness and mild farsightedness—with or without astigmatism— qualify for LASIK. We offer other vision treatment options for patients who are ineligible for LASIK. A free consultation is available to determine whether or not you are a candidate for laser vision correction.

How safe is LASIK?

LASIK eye surgery was first approved by the FDA in 1998 and it is safer now than ever. There are risks associated with LASIK that we discuss with each patient. Still, recent research indicates that LASIK has a 99% success rate in achieving 20/40 vision or better, and a 90% success rate in achieving 20/20 vision or better. LASIK is a safe, successful procedure for most patients.

Is there any pain involved with LASIK eye surgery?

Prior to treatment, we numb your eyes with anesthetic drops so you remain comfortable during the procedure. You will feel a mild pressure sensation, but, should not experience pain. Your doctor will also prescribe post-operative medications and lubricating drops to prevent infection and keep you as comfortable as possible as you heal.

Are laser vision correction procedures covered by insurance?

LASIK is considered an elective procedure. Most insurance companies do not provide coverage. We accept all major credit cards and offer flexible financing options. If you have an HSA or FSA/ Flex account you may be able to pay for LASIK with pre-tax dollars.
